More Do’s:
• It is very important to including books that contain repetition when reading to infants and toddlers.
• Read as much as you have time for.
• When you begin to read a book aloud make sure to say the name of the book and the author of the book no matter how many times you have read it before.
• Give your listeners a few minutes to quiet down before you begin the story. If you are picking up on a story from a previous day provide a brief summary of what happened.
• If it is a picture book, make sure the pictures are easy to see.
• Incorporate lots of expression into your voice to fit the dialogue.
• Adjust your pace to fit the story or dialogue.
• Read slowly enough for your listeners to absorb what you read.
• Allow time for discussions about what you just read.
• Encourage older children to read to the younger ones.
